Configure .DAT files to open in Excel

Click on the Start button.  In the search box enter default apps and click on Default Apps in the menu.

 

Click in the Enter a file type or link type and enter dat.  Select .dat in the dropdown.

 

Click on Choose a default and select more apps.

 

Scroll to the bottom and select Look for another app on this PC.

 

In the file name box paste the following: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\EXCEL.EXE

Click Open.

 

Your .DAT file will now open in Excel.
