NinjaOne - Update Restart Notification for Windows

What is NinjaOne?

NinjaOne is the IT management tool MS Walker uses to keep your device up to date with the latest Windows and software updates. Starting Monday, April 13th, NinjaOne will be managing all Windows and software update scheduling on your device.

 

Update Schedule

Your device will automatically check for and install updates on the following schedule:

  • Every Monday morning – Software updates will be checked and installed.
  • Every Monday and Wednesday at 12:00 PM local time – Windows Updates will be checked and installed.

If your device is offline during a scheduled update window, it will check automatically the next time it comes online.

 

Restart Notifications

Some updates require a restart to complete installation. If that is the case, you will receive a pop-up notification with two options:

  • Yes – Your device will restart immediately.
  • No – The prompt will be postponed for 1 hour.

You can select No up to 8 times before your device is required to restart.

 

System Tray Icon – Restart on Your Schedule

NinjaOne adds an icon to your system tray (next to the clock in the bottom right corner of your screen) that gives you additional control over when your device restarts.

Rather than restarting at an inconvenient time, you can click No on the restart prompt and then use the system tray icon to select Reboot Now for Updates whenever it works best for you, such as when you step away for lunch or at the end of your day.

Please keep in mind that the system tray option is only available within the window of your 8 postponements. Once those are exhausted, your device will restart automatically.
